Look out for bushshrikes

Have you seen this beauty? This is a bushshrike, endemic to South Africa; its shrikebill is great for eating lizards, insects and smaller birds. They are said to call in melodious 'bok bok, mak mak' duetting pairs. Photo: Supplied.

On your next visit to the Melville Koppies Nature Reserve, make sure not only to take note of the vast plant life, but also beautiful birds like the bushshrike. This beauty is only found in South Africa and you might be lucky enough to spot one in your backyard!
