MULTIMEDIA: De La Salle doesn’t pipe down for a competition

The Highland dancers perform with the massed pipe bands to Wilt thou come to the Barracks, Johnnie.

The De La Salle Pipe Band proudly presented their 2016 regional Highland Gathering pipe band and highland dancing competition on their school field.

The event on 28 May on the De La Salle Holy Cross College was attended by pipe bands and pipe band lovers alike. A food and craft market, beer and tea gardens and a host of children’s activities drew the crowds for a fun family day.

Despite a power failure, which lasted most of the day, the show went on without a hitch. Once the senior bands had completed their competition, the drum majors took over before it was time for the massed bands performance.

Over 200 musicians assembled and played songs such as Amazing Grace and Flower of Scotland. They were then accompanied by the Highland dancers for Wilt thou come to the Barracks, Johnnie.

“It really was a wonderful day,” said Rosemary Attwell, organiser of the event. “We appreciate all the support we receive and are delighted that our event grows bigger every year.”
