Coetzee to coach the Boks

The South African National Rugby squad, Springboks, has a new coach.

Allister Coetzee was announced as the new coach on 12 April at the Supersport headquarters at Multichoice in Randburg.

“Allister’s appointment marks the changing of the guard at the top of Springbok rugby and is an exciting new departure for SA Rugby,” said Oregan Hoskins, president of SA Rugby.

“It is a watershed moment for our game with new players developing alongside a spine of experience and it was the right time to have a new man guiding the Springboks for the foreseeable future,” added Hoskins.

Diggers Rugby Club in Malanshof Marc Baker said, “Coetzee is going to make a fantastic coach for the National squad. He has a great pedigree and a proven track record.”

“We as a local rugby club will be backing him completely,” he added.

Chairperson of Pirates Rugby Club in Greenside, Brad Guymer commented, “He comes with a lot of experience and he should bring in a new brand and style of play for the Springboks, which will be great to see.”

According to the SA Rugby, Coetzee has had a long history in South African rugby.

In the statement released by SA Rugby, Coetzee said, “This job comes with a huge amount of responsibility because our passionate fans rightfully demand the best from the Springboks at all times.”

“He proved his ability when he coached the Stormers to great success. He will however, be under immense pressure as the Boks play Ireland in two months at his home ground in Newlands,” added Baker.
