Italian polymath (a person of wide knowledge or learning) Galileo Galilei once said mathematics was the door and key to the sciences.

At Northcliff Primary School, mathematics and science are far from being under lock and key – the school is well familiar with the tools to open the door as well as what lies behind it.

For three Grade 7 mathematics and science children at the school, James Neale, Khanyisile Gcabashe and Liam McIntyre, numbers are not a headache as they are for those not blessed with the gift of calculation.

The three were recently selected to participate in the prestigious annual Grade 7 Math and Science Challange held at Parkview Senior Primary and came second in the competition.

The achievement is a feather in the cap of the school’s head of mathematics, Charmaine Lewis.

The school is immensely proud of their three possible future mathematicians-cum-scientists and their teacher.
