The school’s Grade 7s hosted their annual entrepreneur’s day on 29 September. The day was held as part of the economics and management sciences (EMS) curriculum.

During entrepreneur’s day, the Grade 7’s get to explore the ins and outs of entrepreneurship and how to run their own business. In preparation for the business affair, learners were taught the characteristics and skills entrepreneurs need to be successful.

“They learnt how to negotiate with the suppliers so that they can buy low and sell high in order to make a profit,” Thuli Dlamini, Northcliff Primary EMS teacher explained.

Before welcoming the rest of the school to their respective stalls, the children had to create and present their own business plans which included a budget, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis. They also had to draw up their own advertisement using the AIDA (attention, interest, desire and action) principles.

While the entrepreneur’s day seemed like all work and no play, some stalls were all about fun activities which their customers indulged in. Other Grade 7’s decided to go the culinary route and gave the other grades a variety of foods to choose from.

“We are proud of our Grade 7s who worked really hard to make this day such a success. This initiative was well supported by parents, teachers and the businesses around the area,” Dlamini said.

Businesses who generously sponsored some of the groups included Col’Cacchio, Rocco Mamas and Romans Pizza to give future entrepreneurs a taste of the bigger business world.
