Started from the bottom now she’s here

Carol Mofolo sits as a manager and educator in a non-profit organisation where she once was a receptionist.

In his hit song, Started from the Bottom, Canadian rapper Drake sings, ‘Started from the bottom, now we’re here’, which rings true for Carol Mofolo.

Mofolo manages Mind Moves Institute in Linden, is a frequent guest speaker at corporate events and is more than just familiar with being in front of the camera.

She has worked with the author, developmental specialist and founder of Mind Moves Institute, Dr Melodie de Jager for 10 years – but their story is anything but ordinary.

Mofolo, who has a degree in fine art, was a waitress before starting at Mind Moves as a receptionist.

“I had no idea what it meant to be a receptionist so I told Melodie I would work for her for free until I learnt how to do the job. When I said this, Melodie cried – she’s a crier,” Mofolo laughed.

Some, if not most, of De Jager’s work focusses on development of babies, toddlers and children and Mofolo being a mother herself, took an interest in De Jager’s work.

“I got accredited… I had to write this assignment something like 19 times before I got all my references in order, I submitted, passed and she [Melodie] gave me a certificate,” Mofolo said.

Mofolo is now the Mind Moves ambassador, an educator, the institute’s manager and a TV personality.

She trains people how to educate and assist in baby, toddler and child development.

When Northcliff Melville Times interviewed Mofolo, she had just come back from a SABC 2 appearance where she spoke about babies and walking.

“With everything I do, I try to take it back to the community. That’s really where our work lies. I try to make it as easy as possible for people to understand so they can be great parents,” Mofolo said.

The mother of three is in the prime of her life and treats the world as her oyster while also taking everything she has learnt back to the community.
