The Auckland Park Academy of Excellence (Apax) together with the Association of Muslim Schools hosted their fourth annual soccer festival at Vorentoe High School.
Fourteen schools entered 48 teams in the festival and 120 games were played amounting to 1 560 minutes of football.
Fazela Amod, the academy’s senior administrator said this year the festival included U15 teams for the first time. Apax’s U9, U11 and U13 teams also participated.
“The soccer festival is non-competitive and is aimed at giving as many children as possible a chance to participate,” she said.
Kaizer Chiefs’ Yusuf Bunting made a special appearance at the festival and Amod said he delivered an encouraging message to players and parents, stressing that parental support in all aspects of a child’s upbringing was of utmost importance.
“Apax would like to thank all the participating schools and well-wishers who contributed to the success of the soccer festival,” Amod said.
