It was no easy task but Auckland Park Academy of Excellence (Apax) reached both semi-finals in a recent provincial soccer tournament.
Nizamiye School in Midrand hosted its first U11 and U13 regional All Muslim Schools tournament in four years, and Apax did not want to miss out.
As 20 teams from 10 schools from across Gauteng took to the field on 5 May, Apax shone in both divisions, proving why the school takes the sport so seriously.
The U13 side went into the semis against a strong Azaadville Muslim School and unfortunately lost 2–0. The U11s, on the other hand, had a much closer game. In a scintillating match against Roshnee Muslim School, Apax narrowly lost 4–3.
“At Apax, our learners have shown great enthusiasm and interest in playing soccer,” said the school’s sports coordinator, Reyad Pahad.
He added that this had encouraged talent and good performances in the school’s soccer section.
“Our U11 and U13 boys showed their talent again at a soccer tournament at Nizamiye school in Midrand. Both teams reached the semi-finals and enjoyed the games both on a social and competitive level.”
