Residents of Sophiatown saw a mass patrol by the Sector 3 Crime Forum and stakeholders on 2 June.

The patrol was so that the community could get involved and take part in being aware of their surroundings. The aim was to demonstrate that the police are present and to show criminals that police and the Sector 3 Crime Forum and neighbourhood watches are in the area and will protect the sector.

Sophiatown police officers were part of the patrol as well as SCP Security. “It was a very good patrol for Sector 3 as the community could see Sophiatown Saps are very active in our sector and work hard with all the roleplayers to make it safer for us all. We want criminals to think twice before trying anything in our areas,” said Andrew Burger, vice-chairman of the Crime Forum.

Areas that are part of Sector 3 are Northcliff, Alberts Farm, Waterval Estate, East Town, Greymont, Albertskroon, Roosevelt Park, Montgomery Park, Albertsville and West Park.

“We would like to thank the service providers who joined us on the patrol. [As well as] Saps, Captain Kloppers and Warrant Officer Harold. We would also like to say thanks to station commander Brigadier Crafford for always making her officers available to us for this kind of activity,” said Burger.

SCP Security is always there when we need them. They are always there to help us with these activities as well.”

Community members came out in their numbers to be part of the patrol. Neighbourhood watches from Roosevelt Park, Montgomery Park and Albertsville also joined in.

“It is good for our communities to know that we as the Sector 3 Crime Forum are doing everything in our power to combat crime, but we need the community members to work with us and the police,” said Burger.
