Police are urging homeowners to take note of the escalated thefts of gate motors.
Linden police said that over the last few weeks, there has been an increase in the number of cases opened for stolen gate motors. The station spokesperson, Constable Takalani Matumba, said four gate motors were stolen on the night of 2 July in the same area. Investigations are underway to bring an end to this crime trend.
SCP Security‘s Clive Maher agreed that the area has been experiencing a lot of gate motor thefts. He said, “What’s surprising in some cases is that the anti-theft brackets are being taken with the motors.”
In order to combat this as best as possible Maher gave the following tips:
• Ensure that your gate motor cannot be accessed from outside
• Weld a plate of steel on your gate so when it is closed your motor is hidden
• Invest in a reputable gate motor anti-lift bracket and ensure that it is bolted correctly.
